A Well Attended Meeting

Nearly 30 radiographers attended the SRM conference, held at the Hilton Hotel on October 28, 2001. The setting of this hotel provided the perfect atmosphere for relaxed participation. This was a conference designed with the needs of the radiography profession in mind. The first session started with the President's message, followed by the secretary's and treasurer's report. Joseph Castillo, introduced the society's mission statement and emphasized the importance of contribution. The mission statement "enhancing imaging careers through continuous education, specialisation and networking" set the atmosphere for the next session. But not before coffee and tea.

Following coffee and tea, the attendees began to discuss Radiography Practice Standards. It was immediately clear, that as our 'world' has changed, the radiographer of today has evolved into a far more ready-for-change professional than the radiographer of the past. The Standards of practice were met with enthusiasm, and the conference provided an opportunity for radiographers to share their opinions in a constructive way.

Plenty of networking took place in just a few hours and it was decided to meet again to finalise the standard of practice document.

Many thanks to all who attended.
